This video describes a study investigating the effects of a 6-week meditation practice and healing traumatic experiences such as PTSD (in combination with other western therapy methods).
An American professor visiting Dharmsala, India, and was invited to sponsor a monk who had left Tibet for India. The monk was suffering symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder as a result of abusive and traumatic treatment in prisons in Tibet – a common condition for monks who have left Tibet. Two years later, the monk is transformed and healed, much as a result of the supportive Tibetan community in India, and also a result of daily meditation practices. This chance situation prompted a series of collaborative studies in the US, looking at the effects of meditation, along with western allopathic and counseling practices, in healing groups of women suffering PTSD .
